Raffles Hospital Extension
Singapore
Raffles Hospital Extension project is a state-of-the-art private tertiary hospital offering a comprehensive range of specialist services. Centred on its group practice and quality care philosophy, Raffles Hospital has gained a reputation as an international hospital and a one-stop medical destination for patients from more than 100 countries.
In response to growing healthcare demand, Raffles Medical Group expanded with the construction of the medical tower on its adjacent site, bringing in more speciality services and advanced technology. The integrated medical complex’s objective is to support the hospital’s existing range of specialist services, healthcare training and clinical research, as well as open opportunities for growth and expansion for future years.
A holistic approach is adopted for the functional planning of the New Extension and the existing Raffles Hospital building. The design concept takes inspiration from the existing hospital’s volumetric form. It comprises two L-shaped volumes that interlock and form an elegant tower, embraced by the existing Raffles Hospital with an elevated green area.
The building was designed with a focus on green, efficient and sustainable methodology. Low-E Glass Façade was used to minimise heat gain, reducing the energy needed for cooling the building. Natural lighting concept was introduced in the atrium area for energy saving. Green walls and roofs were used as air cleansing mechanisms, simultaneously providing visual relief for patients and reducing heat gain to the building. Natural ventilation was also adopted for the carpark area for energy efficiency, and water-efficient fixtures were used in the common toilets and medical suites. An automated water-efficient irrigation system with rain sensors was adopted for landscape irrigation.
Raffles Hospital Extension has been awarded Green Mark Platinum Certification by Singapore Building & Construction Authority.
