Shanghai Raffles Hospital

Shanghai Raffles Hospital is an A-class hospital located in New Bund of Pudong District, Shanghai with a capacity of 400 beds, accordance with JCI certification standards (the world’s highest hospital management and service certification standards). It is equipped with comprehensive departments and equipment in order to provide high-level and personalised medical services.

The façade of the hospital is highlighted through the detailing of the glass and aluminium fins against the solidity of the stone wall finish, creating a dynamic contrast and adding a modern touch. The hospital is divided into a podium green volume where clinics and out-patient services are located, as well as an upper block for in-patient care.

Utilising a south-facing concave form, increased exposure to sunlight and a maximised view towards the surrounding urban green zone is achieved. Additionally, the arrangement of the hospital wards on the upper block ensures a view of green spaces on both sides: the urban green zone surrounding the site, as well as the roof garden on the podium green level.

Designed with the belief of “Healing with Green”, the hospital integrates landscape, ecological features and green gardens to create a calm environment to complement the healing process. Furthermore, new technology applications are incorporated to maximize energy savings and promote sustainability, creating a new medical culture of balance and harmony.
