Leadership Transition in Swan & Maclaren Group
SMG is pleased to announce a significant leadership transition within the company, effective 1 December 2024, as part of our continued commitment to growth, innovation, and industry leadership.
Promotion of Mr. Edwin Tan to CEO
Following an extensive and strategic transition period of over 24 months, we are proud to announce the promotion of Mr. Edwin Tan, currently Deputy CEO, to the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SMG. This decision marks a key moment in the evolution of our leadership team and reflects the company’s forward-looking approach to its next phase of expansion.
Mr. Tan brings a wealth of experience to the role, having played a pivotal part in the success and growth of C2R Lighting and contributing significantly to SMG’s strategic direction. A graduate with First Class Honours in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Glasgow University, and recipient of the Everitt Award for outstanding academic achievement, Edwin combines strong technical expertise with an entrepreneurial drive. His leadership in business development, strategic planning, and organizational growth has been integral to SMG’s success, and we are confident that under his guidance, the company will continue to excel in the design, architecture, immersive experience, and lighting sectors.
Mr. Lim Chai Boon to Assume Role of President & Chief Designer
In tandem with this change, Mr. Lim Chai Boon will transition to the role of President & Chief Designer. As a visionary leader and one of Singapore’s notable architects, Chai Boon has been involved with several iconic projects such as Raffles Hospital Singapore & Shanghai, St Andrews Hospital and GSH Tower. In his new role, Chai Boon will focus on driving the creative direction and leadership within SMG’s architecture, design and consultancy divisions. His expertise will continue to play a pivotal role in expanding SMG’s design influence, particularly within the Architecture & Design, Project Consulting, and Interior Design (Workspace & Hospitality) sectors.
This shift in leadership allows Mr. Lim to dedicate his time to the high-level design, client relationships, and mentoring of emerging leaders within the company, ensuring the continued strength of Swan & Maclaren as a creative and design powerhouse in Singapore and key international markets.
A Strategic Transition for Growth
The transition process, which began in early 2023, had been carefully considered and planned to ensure a seamless leadership handover while positioning SMG for continued growth. Key milestones during this period included the successful integration of C2R Lighting and Swan & Maclaren, the establishment of leadership frameworks within our corporate divisions, and the onboarding of key talent in Finance, Corporate Services, and Technology.
The timing of this leadership transition aligns with SMG’s growth trajectory and an exciting portfolio of ongoing projects. In particular, SMG is deeply involved in several significant master planning and design initiatives, including projects in Singapore and Thailand where the President & Chief Designer is expected to closely manage and drive towards success.
A Future Focused on Expansion and Excellence
As we approach the conclusion of FY2024, we reflect on a year of significant achievements and look forward to an even more promising future under the leadership of Mr. Edwin Tan. With key projects nearing completion, such as the Six Flags project in Qiddiyah, Riyadh, and new opportunities emerging in Saudi Arabia and across Asia, SMG is poised to continue its expansion across global markets.
We are excited about the future and confident that with Mr. Tan at the helm, SMG will continue to drive excellence, build upon our legacy, and expand our market presence in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
