Bill Chua

After a distinguished thirty-four-year banking career, Bill retired from United Overseas Bank (UOB) in November 2014. He was the Managing Director and Head of the Financial Institutions Group. He has had senior management responsibilities for the front, middle and back offices at Citibank, Overseas Union Bank (OUB) and UOB.

Bill has led and closed major deals in Capital Markets, Investment Banking, and Transaction Banking. In operations, he successfully integrated the back offices of OUB and UOB after the latter acquired OUB. Bill was also on the boards of several of the bank-owned subsidiaries and joint venture companies. Active on process improvements and risk control front, Bill led several government-initiated projects for the financial industry.

Bill is currently an Independent Director on the Boards of Citibank Singapore Ltd, Sunseap Group Pte Ltd, United Hampshire US REIT Management Pte Ltd, Amara Holdings Ltd, Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education Pte Ltd, IES-INCA Pte Ltd, and Boardroom Executive Services Pte Ltd. He is also currently a Managing Partner and Director at Green Sands Equity Inc.

Bill has been active on boards both locally and internationally since 2000, serving notable names such as Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd, Jurong International Ltd, CLS Ag, DSO National Laboratories, and Defence Science & Technology Agency. Given his academic and working experiences, Bill is often involved in audit and risk management activities, and in strategy, transformation, technology, and operations.

Bill is a Colombo Plan Scholar, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (in Economics), and a Bachelor of Engineering Hons Class 1 (in Industrial Engineering) from the University of Newcastle Australia.

Bill is also a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Directors and a Fellow at the Institution of Engineers Singapore. He was awarded the Public Service Medal (PBM) in 2004, and the Public Service Star (BBM) in 2012 by the Government of Singapore for contributions to the country.
